I can’t remember how I discovered Eva Cassidy. I’m sure it had something to do with Pandora. She was one of the first “channels” I made on that quite awesome utility of modern invention. If you are an old-timer who has not heard of Pandora, I recommend you tao into it. You will find music by artists you’ll love, and didn’t even know it until the Pandora robot told you!
I took a break from some heavy-duty Internet work (that I shouldn’t be doing on a Sunday) and decided to listen to / watch some music performed on Youtube.
The first artist I decided to listen to was: Eva Cassidy. It didn’t even take a lot of thinking, it just came to me. I’d find there was a strange coincidence behind it.
I listened to “Fields of Gold,” not that I was thinking of my Ex-wifey II, as that used to be our song, I was just blown away by Eva’s amazing performance, live no less, of that beautiful song written by Sting for his 1993 album Ten Summoner’s Tales. Eva loved that song too, and it didn’t take her long to cover it. Another coincidence.
After that, I went to Wikipedia because I decided to write a post dedicated to this artist, who was not well known, not because of a lack of talent, but because melanoma took her from us on November 2, 1996, at only 33 years old, just a few years after she put out her first album.
I was shocked when I saw the Wikipedia post and noticed the date she was born!
February 2nd, 1963
That’s today! Happy Birthday Eva! I hope you enjoy a day of singing songs with the Angels. Thanks for your music, it made up the best part of my day today…
Here is the Youtube Video of Eva playing at Blues Alley in Washington D.C…
There are few recordings of Eva Cassidy playing live. This was done by her friend, Bryan McCulley
